At the opening ceremony of the Intelligent Retrieval System of Patent of Design of China (www.disc.gov.cn) held on the SIPO Open Day of April 25, SIPO Deputy Commissioner Yang Tiejun launches the system.

The Intelligent Retrieval System of Patent of Design of China, which is based on image retrieval, can retrieve image contents according to image factors such as shape, color and grain with no other index needed. As a retrieval system with distinct Chinese characteristics, it currently has more than 4 million images in its database with the world first retrieving technology.

The system consists of the functions of full-text retrieval of bibliographic data, image retrieval, sorting according to similarity level, user management, retrieval result processing, retrieval reports issuance and management, and online help. Meanwhile, the retrieval system also uses the technology of double screen display system according to the demand of patent examination, which not only enriches image retrieval methods, but also improves the working efficiency of patent examination.

SIPO formally launched the Intelligent Retrieval System of Patent of Design of China on April 26 this year for local IP administrations and patent agencies to improve the service level of patent information nationwide. A total of 24 local IP administrations and patent agencies including Jiangsu Provincial IP Administration are in the first batch to use the system and SIPO has provided trainings to related staff. The completion and operation of the system further meet the demands of SIPO and local IP administrations in their real work, and will promote the development of China’s industrial design.
