After the earthquake in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province, SIPO and its affiliated units immediately launch activities to help the people in disaster areas.

On the morning of May 13, Tian Lipu, Secretary of the Party Leading Group and Commissioner of SIPO presides over an emergent meeting to communicate the Circular of the General Office of the CPC Central Committee and the General Office of the State Council on the Situation of the Violent Earthquake in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province and Fully Supporting Earthquake Relief Work, deploying disaster relief work of SIPO. The Meeting outlines SIPO’s earthquake relief work and put forward detailed measures, requiring various departments and units to carefully arrange the organization work, carry out the spirit of “one in trouble, all to help,” and launch donation activity throughout the Office to help disaster areas.
On May 13, SIPO issues a notice to lay down the regulations concerning delayed patent application related to force majeure such as earthquake.

From the afternoon of May 13 to the afternoon of May 14, nearly 5,000 people from the SIPO and its affiliated units donate 402,456.8 yuan.

On the morning of May 13, the Party Leading Group of Sichuan Provincial IP Administration holds an enlarged conference to deploy the work of disaster-resistance and self-relief.

On the morning of May 14, Party Committee of Guizhou Provincial IP Administration launches the activity of “helping the people in disaster areas.” A total of 31 staff members, including retired members, totally donate 14,000 yuan to earthquake-hit regions in Sichuan.

On May 14, Sichuan Provincial IP Administration holds a plenary session to contribute money for disaster regions. Cadres of Sichuan Provincial IP Administration totally donate 10,300 yuan at the session.

On May 14, staff members of Ji’nan Municipal IP Administration actively donate 10,050 yuan to the people in earthquake regions.

On May 14, the Party Committee of Beijing Municipal IP Administration calls on all the Party members and cadres in the Administration and its affiliated institutions to donate for disaster areas. A total of 101 Party members and cadres in Beijing Municipal IP Administration totally donated 13,030 yuan.

On the afternoon of May 14, Henan Provincial IP Administration holds a meeting to specially research and deploy matters related to donation for earthquake-hit regions in Sichuan. After the meeting, the Administration holds a short donation ceremony and collects 5,000 yuan within only more than 10 minutes.

On the afternoon of May 14, staff members of Anhui IP Administration, including retired members, actively contribute money for disaster regions, conveying the sympathy and best wishes of all the staff in the Administration to the people who are suffering from the earthquake.

On the morning of May 15, Hubei Provincial IP Administration holds a disaster-relief activity. Within less than two hours, more than 40 people in the Administration donate 11,000 yuan.

On May 15, Party Committee of Hunan Provincial IP Administration holds a donation ceremony and cadres and staff in the Administration totally donate 19,700 yuan.

On May 15, the IP Administration of Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region holds an activity, calling people to donate for disaster regions. Within a short period of time, all the Party members in the Administration totally donate 3,300 yuan.

On May 15, all the cadres and staff members in Sichuan Provincial IP Administration donate 195 quilts, carpets, overcoats and rain capes, one box of medicine of common use and many flashlights and batteries.

Up to May 15, cadres and staff in Shandong Provincial IP Administration totally donate 14,950 yuan.

Up to May 15, cadres and staff in Shaanxi Provincial IP Administration totally donate 8,050 yuan.

On May 16, the Patent Agency of Sichuan Province holds disaster-relief and donation activity. A total of 52,000 yuan is donated from the Agency.

Learning about the earthquake in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province, staff members of the 10 patent agencies in Wuhan City immediately donate 28,800 yuan. Meanwhile, cadres and staff members of Shaanxi IP Service Center and their family members also donate nearly 3,000 yuan.

Facing the earthquake, patent agencies in disaster regions work hard in the front line of disaster relief. In light with the instructions of SIPO, Patent Office and the Department of Preliminary Examination and Flow Management of SIPO urgently deploy various patent agencies’ work during the disaster period so that applicants in disaster areas can normally go through their application procedures, making every effort to reduce their loss, and timely seize up the situations of various agencies, requiring them to ensure personal safety of all members. Currently, all the agencies influenced by the earthquake are working in order and are carrying out their disaster relief work.
