SIPO contacts IP administrations of Sichuan Province, Mianyang City, Deyang City, Guangyuan City and Shaanxi Province to seize up the situations of the disaster. After the earthquake, staff in IP administration in disaster-hit regions still work hard and actively participate in disaster-relief work. They are working according to the arrangement of emergency response offices of the Sichuan Province and related cities to perform their tasks of disaster relief.

The IP administrations and affiliated units in disaster regions express their thanks to the donations and concerns from all the staff members of SIPO to the people who are suffering from the earthquake. They indicate that they will work harder to help the governments in the relief work and conquer various difficulties to do a good job in post-disaster reconstruction, striving for the final victory of the disaster relief campaign.

The earthquake shocks 181 counties in 21 cities and prefectures in Sichuan, causing serious casualty. The offices of IP administrations in Chengdu, Mianyang, Guangyuan, Deyang, Aba and Ya’an are damaged to different levels and some equipment is destroyed.

The office building of Mianyang IP Administration splits, becoming an endangered building, and all the equipment in the offices such as computers are totally damaged. All the offices in Beichuan County IP Administration of Mianyang City collapse to the ground. A total of 76 cracks appear in the office building of Deyang IP Administration with computers and other equipment and furniture seriously damaged. The houses of 17 employees split. Shenfang City and Mianzhu City under the jurisdiction of Deyang City are most seriously hit by the disaster. All the equipment like computers, vehicles and office furniture in Shenfang IP Administration are seriously damaged and all the 280-square-meter office building and 500-square-meter staff houses have become endangered buildings. Meanwhile, office facilities and equipment of Mianzhu IP Administration are severely destroyed with 1,680 square meters of office building and 4,800 square meters of staff’s living apartments becoming endangered buildings. The office facilities of Guangyuan IP Administration are gravely damaged, which also paralyzes its patent information system. The earthquake also serious damages the office building, training center and staff’s apartments of Qingchuan County IP Administration of Guangyuan City. Staff there current cannot work and live in their original places. Shaanxi Provincial IP Administration is not influenced basically.

Two staff members of Beichuan County IP Administration in Mianyang City are missing; one from Qingchuan IP Administration in Guangyuan City is serious injured and another 10 slightly hurt. A total of four family members of a staff member of Beichuan County IP Administration, including his parent, wife and child are missing.
