SIPO Urges More Work for Disaster Relief

On May 20, in order to continue the earthquake relief work and bring the roles of SIPO system in disaster relief work into full play, SIPO issues the Urgent Notice of IP Sectors on Continuing the Earthquake Relief Work (hereafter referred to as the Urgent Notice), requiring IP administrations of various levels all over the country to go on with the disaster relief work in IP sector in six aspects.

The Urgent Notice requires IP administration of various levels to fully implement the spirits of Chinese President Hu Jintao’s important speech at the disaster relief conference on May 17, give priority to disaster relief in their current work in a pragmatic manner and ensure the normal operation of IP work on the basis of making efforts for the disaster relief work. Meanwhile, IP administrations of various levels nationwide should strengthen their supports to IP departments in disaster areas, actively launch the project of supporting the departments in the same fields under the spirit of “one in trouble, all to help,” making great efforts to help relief work in disaster areas.

The Urgent Notice requires IP administrations in various regions to pay attention to the utilization of IP information in the disaster relief work. Through combining local industrial characteristics and technological advantages and retrieving patent information such as anti-seismic measures and earthquake prevention, earthquake supervision, sanitation and epidemic prevention, water purification, technologies concerning secondary disaster prevention and other technologies related to post-epidemic reconstruction, IP administrations should select the latest practicable technologies for disaster-hit regions. In addition, IP administrations of various regions should promote the rapid and effective operation of patented technologies related to earthquake relief work.

The Urgent Notice requires IP administrations in various regions to work hard in protecting IPR in food processing and pharmacy industries while strengthening information communication among them to pragmatically ensure people’s health and safety and maintain the market order in disaster regions.

After the violent earthquake in Wenchuan County of Sichuan Province on May 12, 2008, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee and the State Council, leaders and staff members of IP administrations in disaster regions are working hard in the frontline of the campaign against the disaster, IP administrations in various regions are providing strong supports to the people in disaster-hit regions and the disaster relief work of SIPO system is progressing energetically, orderly and effectively.
