Tian Lipu Meets with IP Australia Deputy Director General and Her Party

 

 

On October 31, SIPO Commissioner Tian Lipu meets with Ms. Fatima Beattie, the visiting Deputy Director General of IP Australia and her party. Both parties exchange views on IP-related topics of common concern and discuss the draft of memorandum of understanding between the two offices.

Mr. Tian first expresses his welcome to Ms. Fatima Beattie and her party, and introduces the basic information of SIPO. He notes that the Compendium on China National IP Strategy issued by the Chinese Government recently is the achievement made by several governmental departments after three years of joint efforts, which includes all the links of IPR creation, utilization, protection and administration and covers all the realms of IP. Besides the work of organizing and coordinating IPR protection nationwide and planning and coordinating foreign-related IP affairs, SIPO is also responsible for the organization and implementation of the Compendium on China National IP Strategy.

 

Mr. Tian points out that China is actively transforming its mode of economic development, making effort to mobilize creativity of the whole society and developing toward the orientation of knowledge creation and knowledge economy. Respecting and protecting IPRs and increasing the capacity of IPR creation have become the urgent needs of China's development. He points out that facing the complicated and severe world economic situations and continuous turmoil in the global financial market, it is especially important for China and Australia to strengthen IP cooperation. He hopes the two IP authorities of China and Australia can continue to strengthen exchanges and cooperation in various levels. Meanwhile, Mr. Tian also extended his congratulations to Francis Gurry from Australia who is elected as the new Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization.

Ms. Fatima Beattie expresses her appreciation for China's issuance of the Compendium on China National IP Strategy, saying that China spends less than 30 years to finish the work that Australia spends 100 years to complete in IP sector. She expresses her appreciation for the achievements that Chinese Government has made. She notes that Chinese and Australian IP authorities are currently facing the common problem of rapid growth of patent applications and have common ground in how to serve the enterprises and the public. She hopes the two offices can further strengthen exchanges and communications in these aspects.
