The Sixth Shanghai International IP Forum Held in Shanghai, Tian Lipu Present

 

 

The Sixth Shanghai International IP Forum is held in Shanghai on November 6 with IP transactions and services becoming a hot topic. SIPO Commissioner Tian Lipu, Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng, Shanghai Vice Mayor Zhao Wen, WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) Senior Counselor Carlos Mazal and CIPO (Canadian Intellectual Property Office) CEO Mary Carman attend the Forum.

Mr. Tian points out that the State Council issues the Compendium on China National IP Strategy on June 5 this year. One of the emphases is to deploy and develop IP market and make it a strategic goal and task. Leaders of the State Council also make instructions several times concerning IP implementation and transformation. The forum we are holding today is a very good platform for exchanges, communications and studies. IP transactions and services are very important in many respects, such as whether IP can be really transformed into reality productivity, whether we can increase the value added of our products and services and whether we can really stimulate a country and a region's economic development.

Mr. Tian stresses that as an internationalized metropolis, Shanghai has made a series of positive exploration work in IP transactions and services. He hopes Shanghai could serve as the backbone elements in the development of domestic IP transactions and services, and play the roles of radiation and promotion so as to encourage the sound and fast development of IP transactions and services nationwide.

Mr. Han points out that IP is the notable symbol of scientific and technological innovation, as well as the core part of a city's international competitiveness. Under the guidance of the national IP strategy and on the basis of the ministry-municipality cooperation mechanism established by SIPO and Shanghai, Shanghai further strengthens IPR creation, utilization, protection and administration, actively launches cooperation and exchanges with foreign countries in IP sector and makes efforts to build Shanghai into a modern internationalized metropolis with vigorous innovation capacity, effective IPR protection, concentrated distribution of IP talents and complete IP operation mechanism. He notes that Shanghai International IP Forum is a platform for Shanghai to enhance exchanges with the international IP circle, as well as a platform for the city to learn the world advanced experience. The Forum is of realistic significance to promoting the transformation of new high-tech achievements and enhancing Shanghai's capacity of industrial technological innovation.

At the meeting, Chen Zhixing, Shanghai IP Administration and Ruud J. Peters, CEO of Philips Intellectual Property and Standards and other domestic and foreign honored guests deliver speeches on IP transactions and services. They also conduct exchanges and interactions with more than 200 experts, scholars, governmental officials and enterprise personnel who participate in the Forum, launching in-depth discussions on topics such as the positioning of the government's roles in IPR transactions, development of laws related to right licensing and transfer, the concept of IPR public service, IPR administration in enterprise initiation and IPR pledge financing.

The Forum

 

The theme of the Forum this year is "Intellectual Property Transactions and Services." Since 2003, Shanghai International IP Forum has been held for six terms in succession. Sponsored by SIPO and Shanghai Municipal People's Government, the Forum this year is an important content of the ministry-municipality cooperation between SIPO and Shanghai Municipal People's Government, as well as an important activity of implementing the Compendium on China National IP Strategy, further lifting the level of the Forum and further enhancing its influences.
