From June 4 to 6, the 7th Meeting of IP5 Heads and Deputy Heads of Offices among China, the U.S., EU, Japan and South Korea was held in Busan, South Korea. Shen Changyu, the Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office of P.R.China (SIPO) led the delegation to attend the meeting. The meeting was chaired by Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) Commissioner Kim Young-Min.Yoshiyuki Takagi, Assistant Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization, attended the meeting as an observer.
At the meeting, the IP5 heads and deputy heads of Offices listened to the main achievements of IP5 cooperation for nearly a year, agreed on approvals of increasing the openness of patent information on the IP5 level, the IP5 strategy for timeliness, convening quality control meeting, etc. They also made sufficient communication about the work plan for the next step on projects including global dossier and patent coordination. In reference to the future of IP5 cooperation, Shen Changyu said:"IP5 cooperation should not only pay close attention to the balance between the public and the industrial community's needs, but also give consideration to user needs at different stages and levels." The IP5 heads agreed that the promotion of IP5 cooperation will continue being oriented to user demands.
During the days, the IP5 Offices convened the 3rd IP5 Heads/Industry Meeting. Shen Changyu introduced the latest policy of SIPO to the industry representatives from China, the U.S., EU, Japan and South Korea. The Patent Protection Association of China (PPAC) organized Chinese enterprise representatives to attend the meeting.
Shen Changyu also held bilateral meetings respectively with Beno?t Battistelli, President of European Patent Office (EPO), Kim Young-Min, Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) Commissioner, and Michelle Lee, Acting Director of U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
The 8th Meeting of IP5 Heads and Deputy Heads of Offices will take place in Suzhou, China, in May 2015.
