SIPO and INDECOPI Signed Cooperation Agreement on Patent Examination and Sharing

BEIJING, Mar.2 (China IP News) -- Shen Changyu, Commissioner of State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), met with Hebert Tassano, President of the National Institute for the Defense of Competition and Intellectual Property Protection (INDECOPI) of Peru in Beijing on February 23. They had an in-depth exchange of views on intellectual property work carried out by Sino-Peru working group, trainings and communication plans for personnel of both Offices. They also signed the Cooperation Agreement on Patent Examination and Sharing between SIPO and INDECOPI. Shen pointed out that China and Peru had deepened their bilateral cooperation in recent years, and expressed his hope that this meeting would lay a firm foundation for their further cooperation and open up a new prospect for bilateral ties.

Shen extended welcome to the delegation of Hebert Tassano for their first visit to SIPO. He said that Peru and China had maintained good bilateral relations and conducted effective cooperation in IP fields, especially since 2012 when the two sides signed MOU. In June 2015, the two sides signed the joint action plan on personnel training, injecting energy into the communication of IP working experience and promotion of IP cooperation between the two countries. Shen hoped that both sides will continue to deepen pragmatic cooperation in all fields so as to achieve fruitful results.

Hebert Tassano spoke highly of China’s prominent IP achievements, and noted that Peru and China had kept sound cooperative relations and made remarkable achievements since the two sides signed the joint action plan on personnel training last June. INDECOPI will strengthen the exchange and cooperation with SIPO, and seize opportunities to jointly push forward the IP development in the two countries.

It is reported that INDECOPI, the crucial partner of SIPO in Latin America, is Peru’s competition authority responsible for enhancing the development of IP system, protecting free and equal competition as well as consumer benefits. The signing of this cooperation agreement shows that INDECOPI becomes the first official user of cloud patent examination system designed by SIPO in South America.
