SIPO Releases 2016 China Patent Report

Recently, the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) released the 2016 China Patent Report, which was the annual release of national patent survey result for the second time.

The 2016 patent survey covered 23 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities in China, and carried out research on patent owners and their patents in force by the end of 2015. The research gave out 15,000 questionnaires on patent holders and 43,000 on patent information. Over 80% of them were collected and more than 70% gave effective information. The report shows that there is growing demand for patent protection in China; effective patent exploitation rate increases steadily; small and micro-enterprises are easily subject to patent infringement and face great difficulties in rights protection.

Since 2008, SIPO has organized annual national patent survey for nine consecutive years. The survey covers a large number of first-hand data in terms of patent creation, use, protection, management and service. In order to make full use of the survey results and reflect the achievements of SIPO, the survey results will be open to the public on a yearly basis and provide data for government decision-making and policy research. (Translated from SIPO Website Chinese Version)
