The 2016 China-ASEAN Training Workshop for Patent Examination Held in Guangzhou

Sep.14 -- Hosted by the State Intellectual Property Office of the P.R.C (SIPO), on September 5, the 2016 China-ASEAN Training Workshop for Patent Examination was opened in Guangzhou. 29 trainees from the ASEAN Secretariat and member countries such as Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam attended the training workshop.

Deputy Commissioner of the SIPO He Zhimin delivered a speech at the workshop. He said that, since China and the ASEAN signed Memorandum of Understanding in the field of intellectual property (IP) in 2009, the two sides have been conducting effective cooperation. At the High-level Conference on the Intellectual Property for Countries along the "Belt and Road" held in July this year in Beijing, countries along the "Belt and Road" route - including the ASEAN countries - jointly approved the Common Initiatives for Strengthening Cooperation between Countries along the "Belt and Road" in the Field of Intellectual Property, a move which laid a further foundation for cooperation in IP between the abovementioned countries. He also expressed the hope that the SIPO would strengthen its experience exchange in patent examination with IP departments of the ASEAN countries and promote mutual development between the two sides.

The training workshop lasts for one week and is undertaken by the Patent Examination Cooperation Center of the Patent Office, SIPO, Guangdong. It covers aspects such as introduction of the SIPO and China's patent system, procedure of patent examination in China, examination of novelty and inventiveness, cloud patent examination system and case teaching in areas of electricity and chemistry. The training workshop will also be conducted at innovation agencies to provide on-site teaching. (Translated from SIPO Website Chinese Version)
