2016 Symposium on China and U.S. Patent Practice Held in Beijing

June 28-- Recently, co-hosted by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and the SIPO / U.S. Bar Liaison Council, the 2016 Symposium on China and U.S. Patent Practice was held in Beijing. SIPO Deputy Commissioner He Zhimin and Organizing Chair of the SIPO/U.S. Bar Liaison Council Fred Koenig attended and delivered a speech.

He Zhimin said that, holding an open and positive attitude, SIPO has not only been engaged in inter-governmental conversation and cooperation, but also attached importance to communicating with the legal profession, industry associations and enterprises and other non-governmental organizations to collect suggestions and enhance mutual understanding, with the purpose of providing better services to intellectual property (IP) users and the public.

Fred Koenig expressed gratitude to the SIPO for its attitude and the communication opportunities it had provided in the past few years. He held that conversation and communication were the best way to promote trust and clear up misunderstanding between the two countries. He also said that through deepening cooperation, the two sides would strengthen China-US relationship in the IP field.

During the symposium, the two sides conducted discussions on topics such as IP protection and enforcement in China, China’s examination and patent agent practice of utility model and patent design, U.S.’s latest legislation progress and juridical practice in the IP field, and the writing of computer software-related patent application in the U.S. Over 100 representatives from the examination departments of the SIPO, IP service agencies from China and the U.S. and the business circles participated in the symposium. (Translated from SIPO Website)
