Recently, the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) Commissioner Shen Changyu met with Gregory So, the current Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Bureau of Hong Kong, and other members of the visiting delegation. Shen Changyu said that in recent years, cooperation between SIPO and Hong Kong Intellectual Property Department are deepening. In particular, the two sides have done in-depth and intensive communication for relevant matters including the reform of Hong Kong's patent system and building Hong Kong into an IP trading enter. He hoped that the good momentum of cooperation could be maintained.
In the meeting, Shen Changyu pointed out that at present the Mainland was promoting S&T progress and innovation. The Third Plenary Session of the 18th Central Committee of the CPC made it clear that "deepening the reform of the scientific and technological system" and "Strengthen the Utilization and Protection of IP", which gives a clear direction for the Mainland's IP development. He said that in future strengthening IP protection, improving IP system, and promoting the capitalization and industrialization of technological achievements would be not only the key for the Mainland to change the development pattern and enhance the capacity for independent innovation, but also a common concern for the Mainland and Hong Kong to increase their comprehensive power and sharpen their competitive edge. Therefore, the two sides will gain a broader development space through deepening cooperation in IPR.
Gregory So thanked SIPO for the help it gave for Hong Kong's IP development. He said Hong Kong was an important international trade hub, and IP played a key role in promoting economic development. Moreover, in recent years, Hong Kong continues increasing its investment for R&D, and has gained more IP achievements. He hoped that the two Offices further strengthen their communication, so as to make their cooperation more effective.
