Tian Lipu Meets Francis Gurry, Director General of WIPO

 

On November 11, Tian Lipu, Commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), met Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and other members of the visiting delegation in Beijing. Li Yuguang, Deputy Commissioner of SIPO, and Wang Binying, Deputy Director General of WIPO, also joined the meeting.

Tian said the friendly cooperation between SIPO and WIPO has yielded fruitful results in the past year. Both sides have made enormous progress in many fields such as mutual visit, personnel training, joint seminar, China Patent Award and information technology. He expected both sides to further push forward comprehensive and friendly cooperation and consolidate and expand the bilateral tie-up.

Tian pointed out that preparations for China’s entry into the Hague system are going on smoothly due to vigorous efforts of both sides. He said he believed that China’s entry will inject fresh vitality into the Hague system, enabling this very important intellectual property service system to better serve global users.

Gurry fully recognized China's achievements in intellectual property. He said he was satisfied with the friendly cooperation with SIPO, and that he had a lot to expect from their future cooperation.

After the meeting, SIPO and WIPO signed the Cooperation Agreement on Developing Infrastructure Services to Support Patent Examination Work Sharing between the World Intellectual Property Organization and the State Intellectual Property Office.
