Tian Lipu, commissioner of China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), met with Michel Barnier, the European Commissioner for Internal Market and Services, and others in Beijing on January 17, 2012. The both sides exchanged opinions and views on the latest developments and future cooperation regarding Sino-European intellectual property.
Tian reviewed intellectural property cooperation between China and Europe, giving the most recent data of China's patent applications and European countries' patent requests in China. In future, the Chinese side will continue to provide hig-quality services for European companies in China and expect further intellectual property cooperation with Europe, as the European Union is one of China's most important patent system users, Tian pointed out.
Barnier introduced up-to-date developments in the unified European patent system. He said Sino-European cooperation in intellectual property is mutually beneficial and such cooperation will expand to other countries rather than be limited to the two sides. It is hoped that Sino-European intellectual property working team will continue its work, launching broader cooperation in amendments of intellectual property laws and regulations as well as in intellectual property protection.
Also present at the meeting was the European Union Ambassador to China Markus Ederer.
