On November 9, the SIPO-sponsored 5th China Patent Week opened  in Beijing. The theme of this event is "Implementing Patent Strategy, Promoting Innovation Development". Francis Gurry, director general of the Geneva-based World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) and SIPO Commissioner Tian Lipu attended the grand opening ceremony. "Implementing patent strategy is at the right moment that China is in a critical period of upgrading ways to economic growth and building an innovation-oriented country. We should step up promoting patent system and economic development, making full use of patent system and providing a strong support and guarantee for building an innovative nation", said Tian in his speech.

The event will take place nationwide from November 9 to 15. In a bid to foster public patent awareness, create a sound environment for invention and intellectual output protection, guide the public to better utilize the patent system and prop up commercialization of innovations, promote enterprises to obtain own IPRs, the event includes a series of activities known as popularizing patent knowledge, guiding enterprises to fomulate and utilize patent strategy to transform management concepts and development patterns to achieve the objective of sustainable development. During the event, a variety of activities including showcasing patent technology, exploring how to achieve patent value, promote patent products trading and accelerate transformation of development patterns,strengthening patent protection, improving enforcement procedure，providing legal aid and public service and regulating intermediary services will be held. 

 

Main Event

 

The 5th China Patent Week was launched by SIPO on November 9 across the nation. In the main court in Beijing, a variety of activities including issuing the Promotion Plan for the Implementation of the Patent Strategy in 2012, organizing the 13th China Patent Awards and China Patent Information Annual Meeting. In parallel, the lecture for national patent agent situation and patent agent qualification examinations, Invention and Innovation Forum in Compus, patent fair, International Forum on Enterprise Overseas Patent Layout, BITA ( Beijing Intelligent Terminal Alliance) Patents Pooling Launching Ceremony, OLED (Organic Light Emitting Diod) industry IPR Alliance Launching Ceremony will be held.

Compared with the previous events, the items cover many fields including OLED and other advanced materials, new energy, energy-saving and emission reduction, ecological environment protection, modern service industry and science and technology for people's livelihood.

In branch fields, Shanghai steps up displaying patented products in seven emerging industrial fields of energy-saving and environmental protection, new-generation information technology, biotechnology, high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy, advanced materials and alternative-fuel cars, providing  industrialization service, supporting the new technology and new products in the field applications; Tianjin conducts patent information searching services on-site to promote industrial development; Chongqing organizes a series of activities including low-carbon environmental protection and circular economy patent technology fair, IPR alliance salon,popularizing patent knowledge. Guangdong, Sichuan, Zhejiang, Hunan, Hubei organized exhibitions and lectures, set up alliance, and provided legal aid and launched patent enforcement actions.
