Shanghai World Expo European Patent Office Day events were held in the EU - Belgium Hall on September the 4th. State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) directory Tian Lipu, the director of the European Patent Office Benoit Battistelli, vice ambassador of the EU Delegation in China Michael Pulch attended the event and delivered speeches.

 

Tian Pu reviewed at the opening ceremony that since 25 years ago when the two councils start formally collaborating, the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and the European Patent Office has established a strategic partnership with fruitful cooperations in various fields. He hoped the two sides continue to improve the level of cooperation to promote the innovative activities between China and the EU countries, and to create a better IPR protection environment for the business community, thus making greater contribution to the common prosperity of China and EU countries.

 

Battistelli recalled in his speech the friendship and cooperation over the years between the European Patent Office and the State Intellectual Property Office, and the fast growth of patent applications of Chinese enterprises in the European Patent Office. He expressed that the European Patent Office would further strengthen the friendship between the European Patent Office and the State Intellectual Property Office and the continual improvement of the international patent system and bilateral economic and trade exchanges.

 

After the opening ceremony, Tian Lipu, Battistelli, and Pulch also attended the press conference on China-EU cooperation in IPR protection, and accepted interviews with the press.

 

In the following "exhibition of intellectual property protection ? Analysis of the Judicial Process in China and the European Union through Court Simulation" event, experts from the European Union and China played the role the judge, lawyers and technical experts on the same infringement cases. Two teams simulated the litigation and trial based on European or Chinese legal system for IPR protection exhibition. By comparing the similarities and differences between Chinese and EU exhibition intellectual property protection in legal procedures and practices, the European and Chinese enterprises had a better understanding on the significance of exhibition IP protection and detailed legal procedures.
