SIPO Commisioner Tian Lipu Met with OHIM President in Beijing

 

On April 29th, SIPO Commisioner Tian Lipu met with Wubbo de Boer, President of Office for Harmonization in the Internal Market (OHIM). The two parts signed the Memorandum of Understanding on Cooperation 2010-2011.

Tian Lipu briefly outlined the latest development on China's design system after the revising of the patent law. He pointed out that China's Patent Law posed new criteria on designs with improved design patent licensing standards and increased requirements on similar creative action. He expressed that SIPO had already good cooperative relations with OHIM. He hoped the new design system would help protect European right owners' legitimate rights and inject vitality into the Chinese market.

Wubbo de Boer expressed that the design system is critical for enterprises. OHIM was working to address issues like how to shorten processing time or reduce registration costs. He hoped communication between the two sides would be strengthened and exchanges and cooperation would be furthered in the field of design systems.

The 2010-2011 MOU signed between the two sides included traditional cooperative actions like seminars, comparative studies, and traineeships. In addition, contents regarding the graph information retrieval had also been added in.
