The 6th session of the "Wuhan-Optics Valley of China" Intellectual Property Protection Forum was solemnly convened in the Scientific and Technological Convention Center of the New-Tech Development Zone in the East Lake, Wuhan City on November 2nd. With "Independent innovation and international protection for intellectual property" as the theme, the intellectual property experts from the United States and Japan and the leaders from the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and the Working Office of the Leading Group for the State Intellectual Property Protection and other units made in-depth discussions on such issues as international protection for intellectual property and international litigation for intellectual property. Zhang Qin, Deputy Director of the State Intellectual Property Office Xiang Xin, Secretary-General of the Working Office of the Leading Group for the State Intellectual Property Protection and Yuan Shanla, Member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Wuhan City Committee and Vice-Mayor attended the forum and delivered addresses respectively.
Zhang Qin, on behalf of SIPO, delivered an address. He said that since 2001, the State Intellectual Property Office together with the Wuhan City People's Government have successfully hosted 5 sessions of the "Wuhan-Optics Valley of China" Intellectual Property Protection Forum at the national grade high-tech zone ? the East Lake New Technology Development Zone. These forums have played an active role in strengthening the intellectual property protection over China's high and new technological enterprises as well as upgrading the consciousness on intellectual property. They have also produced certain repercussions both in China and abroad.
It was learnt that during the forum, Secretary-General of the Working Office of the Leading Group for the State Intellectual Property Protection, Tou Yin, an American doctor of Jurisprudence, Nagahira Akio, Professor of Japan's Northeast University, Lu Zun of U.S. Connely Law Firm and Wu Xiangyong, Deputy Director of the Wuhan City Quality Technology Supervision Bureau successively made their respective penetrating presentations on: strengthening the protection of intellectual property and raising the international competitive edge of enterprises; technological standard and independent innovation; How could the Chinese enterprises acquire protection for intellectual property overseas; How could the Chinese enterprises respond to intellectual property international litigation; the intellectual property strategy of the transnational corporations in foreign countries; the status quo and the trend of the optical electronic information industry and so on. They also conducted active exchange and discussions with the participants. The presenters' numerous viewpoints simply aroused the enthusiasm of nearly 200 eminent representatives from the high and new technology areas.
It was learnt that the 5th session of the "Optics Valley of China" International Optical Electronics Expo attracted more than 400 guests from Russia, the United States and other countries as well as a dozen of well-known academicians from China and abroad. This was the biggest of all the five sessions of the forum in terms of scope. The so-called "Optics Valley of the ROK" also held its first exhibition in Wuhan City. This year is the "Sino-Russian Friendship Year" in which, the optical electronic enterprises from Russia would also take part in the forum. The 6th "Wuhan-Optics Valley of China" Intellectual Property Protection Forum was held during the International Optical Electronics Expo, with the purpose that the participants would have the opportunity to know the latest development trend of the world's optical electronics industry while attending the forum.
