Wen Jiabao was present at the signing ceremony of the Sino-German Bilateral Cooperation Summary

Recently, Tian Lipu, director of the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) and Mr. Shadd, director of the German Patent and Trademark Bureau (PTMB) jointly signed the 2007 Sino-German Bilateral Cooperation Summary between SIPO and PTMD at the Federal Chancellor's Office in Berlin, Germany.  Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and German Chancellor Angela Merkel were present at the signing ceremony.  Pursuant to this Bilateral Summary, SIPO and PTMB will enhance their respective senior officials' visit to the other country and exchange opinions on major international affairs pertaining to intellectual property.  And multi-layer and diversified exchange and cooperation will be carried out on the basis of mutually beneficial cooperation, so as to further guarantee the execution of the bilateral strategic cooperation plan.

During his stay in Germany, Tian Lipu co-chaired the 25th anniversary activities celebrating the cooperation between SIPO and PTMB and he was also present at the seminar marking 25 years Sino-German cooperation in the intellectual property area held in Munich.

The German Patent and Trademark Bureau have rendered assistance to the development of the Chinese State Intellectual Property Office since the latter was created in the context of personnel training and examination business.  For many years, SIPO and PTMB have maintained close and friendly cooperative relations.  Along with the growth of China's economic strength and the rapid development of its intellectual property system, Sino-German cooperation in the intellectual property area has become an important component of cooperation between China and Germany.  The signing of the current 2007 Bilateral Cooperation Summary by the directors of SIPO and PTMB is an indication that the intellectual property cooperation of the two countries has been raised to a even higher layer.
