The 15th Session of the Sino-Japanese Intellectual Property Seminar was held in Wuhan City recently. IPR experts from Japan's Honda, NEC, China's East Wind Auto etc. and the Intermediary People's Court of Wuhan City as well as from the Central-South China University of Finance and Economics and Political Science and Law and also the Japanese judges participated in the seminar. Its theme is: Enterprise IPR Strategy and Trial of IPR". The participants conducted in-depth discussions on issues that are of the enterprises' concern such as: IPR strategy and infringement litigation. Zhang Qin, deputy director of the State Intellectual Property Office, Yuan Shanla, vice-mayor of Wuhan City and other leaders were present at the meeting and also gave addresses.
Zhang Qin said: "The purpose of holding the 15th Session of the Sino-Japanese IPR Seminar is to set up a platform for study and exchange in the intellectual property right field, to share the experiences pertaining to the management of IPR in Japan and to promote independent innovation of enterprises.
Yuan De, secretary general of All-China Patent Agents Association said that since the first Sino-Japanese IPR Seminar was held in Beijing by the All-China Patent Agents Association and the Japan Council for the Promotion of International Trade in 1991, a seminar session is held every year. Hence, a platform for mutual exchanges and study has been set up in the Sino-Japanese IPR field.
It is said that great changes have been made in the themes and contents of the Sino-Japanese IPR Seminar since 2003, i.e. changes were made from mainly imparting the knowledge of Japan's IPR Law and patent system in the past to mutual exchange between the Chinese and Japanese experts. The Japanese side dispatched persons in charge of IPR department of transnational corporations, Japanese lawyers and members of the Japan Intellectual Property Strategic Group to give lectures. The Chinese side also dispatched high-level personnel from the large-sized enterprises in charge of IPR, Chinese judges, and IPR experts to give lectures at the same platform. This has not only greatly promoted the exchange and cooperation between the two countries in the intellectual property right field, but also helped the Japanese side to understand more fully the IPR investment environment of various Chinese cities and to correct some misunderstanding of the Japanese merchants pertaining to the status quo of certain Chinese regions. The seminar also has played a big role in attracting foreign funds to China.
It is reported that this session was jointly sponsored by All-China Patent Agents Association, China Coordination Office of the Japan Council for the Promotion of International Trade and the Wuhan City Intellectual Property Office. More than 230 people including the related leaders from the local intellectual property offices, patent agents and representatives of the enterprises attended the meeting.
