Mr.Li Yuguang and Xing Shengcai Attended Sino-European Int'l Seminar

 

For promoting the cooperation with ASEAN countries in IP field and carrying out the cooperation summary between SIPO and European Patent Office (EPO),SIPO and EPO jointly organized an international seminar in China IP Training Center between August 7 and 9 in Beijing.Mr.Xing Shengcai,Deputy Commissioner of SIPO,Mr.Johan Amand,Director International Affairs of EPO,and Mr.Pedro Osona,director of China Program of EPO,attended the opening ceremony of the seminar on "Traditional Knowledge in Asia: Development of Databases for Patent Search in Asia",and Mr.Li Yuguang, Deputy commissioner of SIPO,and Mr.Manuel Desantes,Vice President of EPO,show up at the closing ceremony and granted certificates to all participants.

 

The topics of this seminar includes Protection of Traditional Knowledge; TK and Search Documentation: General Principles; TK and Search Documentation: Present and Future in EPO,SIPO and Offices of ASEAN Countries,etc.During the 3-day long seminar,participants held round-table meetings respectively about the Relationship between Patent Protection of TK and Sui generis Protection,and the Possibility of establishing National-Regional TK or Traditional Medicine Database.In addition,delegates from various countries introduced the protection progress of traditional knowledge in their own country.

 

Some senior guests invited by SIPO and EPO,such as Mr.Antony Taubman,Acting Director of WIPO's Traditional Knowledge Division,Mr.Johan Amand,director of International Affairs of EPO as well as senior officials from EPO taking charge of data acquisition and pharmaceuticals,Prof.Christoph Antons,Director of the Centre for Comparative Law and Development Studies in Asia and the Pacific,the University of Wollongong,Australia,and Mrs.Kunchana Deewised,Deputy Director of the Institute of Thai Traditional Medicine,gave their presentations in the seminar.In addition,Mr.Mario Rodriguez Montero,Deputy Director General of the Mexico Industrail IP Insitution,was invited for a speech.Mr.Shen Zhixiang,Department Director General of International Cooperation of China State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine,Ms.Che Mingfeng,Division Director of China's State Food and Drug Administration as well as SIPO staff in law,pharmaceuticals,information departments were invited to present their speeches.

 

Other attendants included 14 representatives from Cambodia,Indonesia,Laos,Malaysia,Singapore,Thailand,Philippine and Vietnam,and delegates from China's relevant departments,such as SIPO,the state administration on environmental protection,the Chinese Association on National Medicines,state administration on food and drug,etc.attended the seminar either.
