Beijing Protects Olympic IPR and Punishes Infringement

 

The State Information Office of China held a press conference on August 8, 2006, two-year countdown begins to 2008 Olympic Games. Mr. Wang Wei, Executive Vice-President and Secretary-General of the Organizing Committee of Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and Mr. Jiang Xiaoyu, Executive Vice-President of the Organizing Committee, said that Beijing will legislate a law to protect the IP rights (IPR) of Olympics, combats and punishes any infringements by law.

According to Mr. Wang, Chinese government has attached a high attention to the preparation of 2008 Olympics, Chinese people and all circles of society give them warm-hearted support, while the Olympic venue construction proceeds smoothly so far. Beijing requires 37 competition and 76 training venues for the 2008 Olympic Games. Construction of 15 new competition venues has been started. Main structures of some key venues have been completed. Work on competition organization is moving forward at a steady pace. Competition Schedule by Day and Competition Schedule by Session have been worked out. Competition managers for 28 events have been identified.

 

Games preparation in co-host cities is also going well, and the Olympic Equestrian Committee has been established in Hong Kong. Marketing efforts have paid off. Apart from 11 IOC's Worldwide Olympic Partners who'll offer financial and service support to the Beijing Olympic Games, another 11 Chinese and overseas companies have become Partners of the Games.??

Stimulated by the preparation of 2008 Olympic Games, Beijing enjoys a rapid economic development, and the conditions for Olympics come to be more and more mature.

    

 When asked about the souvenirs of 2008 Olympics, Wang said that there are some 200 designated sellers for the souvenirs, but for the sake of protecting Olympic IPR, the organizing committee has adopted a series of measures, including asking for a new law and severe combat and punishment to all infringement cases.
