Deputy Commissioner Mr. Li Yuguang met with Mr. Yoshitaro Shimanuki, Director of Intellectual Property Department of NTT DoCoMo on February 17, 2004.

Mr. Li welcomed the delegation and thanked NTT DoCoMo for the efforts of holding a technology presentation for SIPO examiners.  He introduced SIPO's measures in tackling examination backlog and the progress made.  When referring to the training of new examiners, Mr. Li said SIPO recruited a significant number of new examiners in recent years.  They needed training in various areas, laws, examination practice and latest technology before starting work.  In this connection, SIPO attached great importance to the technology presentation on mobile telecommunications on March 20 and believed it would be a great success.  Mr. Shimanuki also expressed his willingness for future communication and cooperation.

As the largest mobile telecommunications company in Japan, NTT has obtained over 1,100 patents in China.
