SIPO Involved in Zhongguancun's Development

The Leading Group of Zhongguancun Sci-tech Park (hereinafter called Zhongugancun), the highest decision-making authority for the development of the park formally included the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) as its member during its latest organizational adjustments.

Other newly added members of the Group are National Development and Reform Commission, Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Construction, Ministry of Commerce, National Copyright Administration, China Securities Exchange Council, China Academy of Engineering.  Mr. Wang Qishan, Acting Mayor of Beijing, Mr. Xu Guanhua, Minister for Science and Technology, Mr. Zhou Ji, Minister for Education will jointly head the Group.

"It is our wish to make play of the role of intellectual property, i.e., promote technological innovation, attract investment through this experimental tech base." A senior official from SIPO said.

In recent years, while being pivotal in increasing the total volume of IPRs in Beijing and accelerating commercialization of patented technologies, Zhongguncun companies are still deficient in some aspects, low productivity of proprietary IPRs and patent strategy-planning.

SIPO has always been in support of Zhongguancun's IPR work.  A few months ago, the two authorities jointly established a National IPR Model Park, trying to devise a healthy and effective IP administration system.  In recent years, SIPO has been very active in promoting IPRs and providing relevant services by establishing application receiving branches, patented technology transfer center, intellectual property law service center and roving IP tribunals.
