Mainland, Hong Kong SAR and Macao SAR Symposium 2003, jointly organized by the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO), Hong Kong SAR Intellectual Property Department (HKIPD) and Macao SAR Economic Services, was held at the China Intellectual Property Training Center in Beijing from December 11 to 12, 2003.  The Symposium was the fourth annual gathering of the three offices since its inauguration in 2000. 

Around 150 intellectual property officials, experts, scholars, lawyers and other professionals participated in the one-and-half day event.  SIPO Deputy Commissioner Li Yuguang, HKIPD Director Stephan Selby and Macao Economic Services Acting Deputy Director Tai Kin Ip delivered speeches at the opening ceremony.  Major IP personalities from the three regions, such as Professor Zheng Chengsi, Senior Research Fellow of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS), Senior Justice Cheng Yongshun, Beijing High People's Court, Mr. Kwong Chi Keung, Senior Partner of Sit Fung Kwong & Shum of Hong Kong, Mr. Stanley Au, Chairman, Delta Asia Financial Group of Macao, and many others offered their standpoints on intellectual property as a tool to economic development, intellectual property and SMEs and judicial protection of intellectual property.  The Symposium provided a valuable platform for IP professionals from the three regions to communicate and exchange information.  The Symposium will be held in Macao SAR in 2004.
