On December 9, Deputy Commissioner Tian Lipu met with Ms. Chan Tze Wai, Acting Head of the Intellectual Property Department, Macao Economic Services. 

The two offices signed a bilateral cooperation agreement earlier in January.  In this connection, SIPO sent a team of examiners to the Macao office to lecture on formality check, design and patent examination.  The delegation led by Ms. Chan, was to follow up this training course by conducting a field study at SIPO, focusing on the examination procedure from reception of applications to grant of utility model, design and patent.  The two sides also discussed SIPO's competency of examination for patent applications filed in Macao and the possibility of extension of patent rights. 

Commissioner Tian reiterated the importance of the cooperation between the two offices.  He indicated that as a competent examination agency, SIPO had a responsibility to assist the Macao office in patent examination.
