Wang Jingchuan, commissioner of the State Intellectual Property Office, announced that "The Summit on Intellectual Property and the Knowledge Economy Conference" would be held in April 2003 in Beijing on "The Thirty-seventh Series of Meetings of the General Assembly of the Member States of WIPO", which will be organized by both WIPO and Chinese government. China will fully cooperate with WIPO and make full preparation so as to ensure the success of the conference.
Zhang Qiyue, the spokeswoman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs also formally announced the decision on October 10. She expressed that the conference would help to make the international community learn more about the intellectual property system in China and further deepen the international cooperation in this field. At the same time, it will help to promote the understanding of the international community on the efforts in respect of intellectual property made by China. China will try its best to well organize the conference, which will be also the first leaders meeting convened in the history of WIPO.
