In May, the 2002 Science and Technology Week started in Beijing, and the theme of the Week was "Science and Technology Create the Future".  Vice Premier Wen Jiabao attended the opening ceremony and delivered an important speech.  Also at the ceremony were state leaders including Mr. Zhou Guangzhao, Vice President of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Mr. Song Jian, Vice President of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

 

Mr. Wen pointed that in order to develop science and technology, it is essential to disseminate the scientific spirit among the public, strengthen the public awareness for the science and technology, improve the science and technology knowledge of the citizens, and direct the public to the use of advanced scientific knowledge and method.
