On April 25, the eve of the second World Intellectual Property Day, National Women Union, State Intellectual Property Office and China Invention Association celebrated the UN-recognized festival by awarding elite female inventors at the Great Hall of the National People's Congress in Beijing.
The 10 crowned inventors, who were selected from 133 candidates across the nation, were honored the titles Female Inventor of the New Century. Another 20 won the titles of Excellent Female Inventor.
Commissioner Wang Jingchuan commended the achievements of the inventors. "After China's accession to WTO, we are fully exposed to the fierce international competition." He said, "The quantity and quality of intellectual property owned become vital focuses in this competition. Therefore, encouraging innovation is an important task for a company and even a country."
Peng Peiyun, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress and Chairman of the National Women Union; Gu Xiuliang, Vice Chairman of the Union; Cheng Zhili, Minister for Education and Deputy Commissioner Ma Lianyuan also attended the ceremony.
