Last year, Shenzhen ranked first among Chinese cities in the numbers of annual domestic invention patent applications, grants, valid invention patents, international patent applications and China Patent Awards, according to a report unveiled last week by the city's market and quality supervision commission. The report also noted that there were 80.1 invention patents for every 10,000 local residents, about 10 times the national average.
