Oct.14 (China Daily) -- The end of 2014 saw the approval from the State Council that Tianjin will become a national innovation demonstration area. In February 2015, Tianjin Innovation Demonstration Zone was established, serving Beijing, Tianjin, and Hebei Province.

As a test area of national innovation-driven development, Tianjin National Innovation Demonstration Zone becomes the new starting point for promoting innovation-driven development. The area enjoys priority state policies and preferential policies for Tianjin.

In early 2016, "Tianjin's Development Plan for National Innovation Demonstration Zone (2015-2020)" was approved by 14 ministries including the Ministry of Science and Technology. A setup of "one area and twenty-one parks" was established. "One area" refers to the core area of Tianjin Binhai New Area; the " twenty-one parks" is the construction of 21 sub-areas sprinkling 15 districts and 6 functional areas within Tianjin municipitality.

The "Plan" put forward that by 2020, Tianjin Demonstration Zone will achieve total revenue of 6 trillion CNY and become an industrial innovation center and regional innovation center with international competitiveness. By 2020, The Demonstration Zone will have 5,000 patents granted.

High-end equipment manufacturing, alternative energy, and new energy vehicles and other leading industries will prevail and compete in the international markets. Tianjin will breed more than 10 innovative enterprises with global competitiveness and build a high level R&D base. It will create an environment with innovative elements and culture. It will build 100 public innovation spaces and attract 10,000 entrepreneurs. It will establish a mechanism of cooperation between the tri-area and transfer 1,000 innovations from Beijing. It will build a number of international open platforms for cooperation and development and become an important node in the global innovation network.

In order to become an innovation cluster area, an industrial development pilot area, a transformation and upgrading leading area, and an open innovation demonstration zone, based on advanced manufacturing industrial base advantage, Tianjin Demonstration Zone will build high-end equipment manufacturing, new energy and new energy vehicles, new generation information technology, biomedicine and other four advanced manufacturing industry clusters, accelerate advanced manufacturing intelligence service transformation, build the country's advanced manufacturing R&D base, lead the Chinese manufacturing transformation and upgrading, and build an internationally competitive industrial innovation center.
