Aug.2 -- In the first half year of 2016, the number of patents in Shanghai and the quality of patents continued to rise steadily. From January to June, the number of patent application in Shanghai was 53,042, with a year-on-year growth of 25.1%. Invention, utility model and industrial design applications accounted for 46%, 43% and 11% respectively of the total number of applications. The number of application of inventions was 24,244, which increased 23.2% compared to the same period last year.

From January to June, the number of patent grants in Shanghai was 29,887, with a year-on-year growth of 12.5%; the number of invention patent grants was 10,730, with a year-on-year growth of 35.2%; the number of PCT international patent applications was 678, with a year-on-year growth of 41.5%. By the end of June, the number of valid inventions owned by Shanghai citizens was 78,286, with a year-on-year growth of 25%. The number of inveion patents owned per 10,000 people was 32.4.
