The city ranks 10th in term of comprehensive intellectual property capacity, according to the recently released China Intellectual Property Annual Index 2013. It is the only municipality in central and western China to enter the top 10. As of the end of last month, companies, organizations and individuals in Chongqing owned 7,830 invention patents. The ownership of invention patents per 10,000 people was 2.68, ranking the ninth nationwide.
