Beijing: Plans for New Crop Varieties

The State Council recently unveiled a series of plans to develop new crop varieties. One of the initiatives calls for a commercial breeding system by 2020 that "integrates R&D and commercialization, concentrated resources and high efficiency". The blueprint envisions a number of competitive companies that will become key innovators in seed development. The plans are backed by preferential policies including tax breaks for leading high-tech companies.
