Shanghai Court Commended for IP Protection

Its quick response to the violation of intellectual property rights earned the Shanghai First Intermediate People's Court the gratitude of the consulate general of Belgium.

Consul Christophe Cardon praised the court for its effectiveness in executing a pre-trial temporary restraining order on the three domestic manufacturers whose products infringed the patent of a rapier loom produced by Belgian company Picanol NV.

The court received the restraining order on June 11, and after verifying the evidence courthouse staff ordered the three manufacturers to stop using the product - which had been on display at the textile machinery exhibition in Shanghai New International Exhibition Center - and to pay a penalty

Liu Ming, general managing director of Picanol NV, said they were very satisfied with the result and they admired the professional quality and skill of the judges from the court.
