The State Trademark Office has delayed a final decision on an application to register the name iPhone as a lamp trademark after an objection was filed by Apple Inc on the last day of public review in Yiwu.

Xu Jie, head of a local trademark agency, was commissioned to file an application in the electric lamp and flashlights category, one in which the name has not been registered.

In its objection, Apple asked the STO to grant well-known trademark status to the name iPhone, which would give it cross-category protection.
