In an effort to fight piracy, the Chinese government plans to purchase the rights to Japanese animations and offer them on a new video portal, Kyodo News Service reported on Feb 17.
A copyright protection center managed by the China National Copyright Administration is in charge of negotiations with Japanese copyright owners and building the video website, which is scheduled to begin operations this summer.
China also plans to establish similar arrangements with copyright owners in the United States and South Korea.
