Suzhou police recently broke up a gang producing and selling an oral liquid purporting to boost the human immune system that was found to contain nothing more than sugar and water.

The quantity of fake medicine seized had a potential retail value of 1 million yuan ($157,200).

The investigation began when police received a report from the local food and drug administration in September. They found the same counterfeit drug on sale in Zhejiang, Henan and Gansu provinces.
