Beijing: WIPO Director Lauds China's IP Strategy

Francis Gurry, director of World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), recommended China's national intellectual property strategy to other countries at an international forum that began on Nov 9 at the city's landmark Friendship Hotel.

Calling it "really an exemplary document", Gurry said the plan has helped the country achieve "great successes" using intellectual property in industrial and economic development.

The recent WIPO report titled The Changing Face of Innovation said China has replaced Japan as the second-largest spender on R&D in the world following the United States.

The two-day forum co-sponsored by WIPO and the State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) attracted IP officials from 17 Asia-Pacific countries to share their experiences in formulating and implementing national IP strategies.
