Executives of leading media groups called for better copyright protection during the World Media Summit 2011. They said piracy is a common problem seen in every country.
"The piracy of content is so severe that it has threatened some traditional media," said Li Congjun, president of China's Xinhua News Agency. "One of the reasons is that new media are not properly managed and regulated."
David Schlesinger, president of Thomson Reuters China, said news companies are rivals, but they are partners in copyright protection.
Ringo Chan, vice-president of Turner Broadcasting System Asia, said his company has introduced a "2E1T" strategy - education, enforcement and technology - to battle copyright violations.
