Zhejiang: Infringement Fine for Karaoke

A karaoke club in Wenling was recently fined 45,000 yuan ($7,051) for illegal use of 53 songs whose copyrights are owned by a Hangzhou-based intellectual property rights agency.

It was also ordered to remove the songs from its playlist.

The agency presented video from inside the club as evidence and also showed documents confirming it own the rights to the songs.

The club said the songs were pre-loaded in a system bought from a software company.

The agency has also brought lawsuits against four other karaoke clubs.
