China's first client for the home-developed light sports plane Aurora took delivery of the aircraft on Oct 16 during the China International General Aviation Convention in Xi'an.

The Aurora, developed by Hunan-based Sunward Science & Technology Co Ltd in 2008, is a single-engine, two-seat, low-wing light aircraft. It is the first Chinese design of its kind to receive certification from the Civil Aviation Administration of China.

Industry insiders said the Aurora could mark the beginning of a new era in China's general aviation industry.

It was first sold in Italy in 2009.
