The State Intellectual Property Office and Japan's Patent Office signed a joint declaration on Oct 18 to increase cooperation on patent applications.

The two sides will launch a "Patent Prosecution Highway" on Nov 1 that aims to accelerate procedures by sharing information.

With the goal of reducing the examination workload, the new system will enable patent offices to benefit from the work already done by other examiners.
