Anhui: From Herbs to Flower Pots

A farmer from Feidong county has found a new use for an old common herbal medicine source - he used it for bonsai.

Yu Yong has been growing the plant, glossy ganoderma, for nearly 20 years, but always sold it as herbal medicine, until 2007, when he got the new idea of how to create value.

Now, along with the many medicinal uses for glossy ganoderma, Yu holds design patents and has a company with an annual output value of more than 50 million yuan.

"Glossy ganoderma can be grown indoors like a flower," Yu explained, "It looks nice, and releases spores, which are good for your health."
