Beijing: Expensive Cup of Coffee

 

The national Up Bridge Coffee (UBC) brand recently won out in a trademark dispute with the Beijing Qinquan Catering Co Ltd chain.

One restaurant in the Qinquan Catering chain has been using the UBC trademark and logo without authorization for its billboards, containers, and products since September of last year.

Beijing Shangdao Catering Co Ltd, the holder of the UBC brand, maintained that the defendant had not only damaged its reputation and brand name, but caused serious profit losses as well.

The Fengtai district court ruled that Qinquan Catering has to desist from its infringement activities immediately and pay 60,000 yuan ($9,400) in compensation.
