Yunnan has made great improvement in the protection of new varieties of agricultural plants. As of the end of 2010, the province had filed applications for 247 new varieties of agricultural plants, and has been issued 74 authorizations; 28 for rice, 23 for corn, 12 for flowers, 3 for wheat, 4 for barley, 2 for potatoes and 3 for pears.
