Beijing: Online Sale of Fake Brand Boots Mets 900,000 Yuan

Four people have been arrested for selling counterfeit UGG brand snow boots in a shop on Taobao.com, China's largest online retailer, that generated 900,000 yuan ($139,223) in revenues.

One of the suspects, surnamed Yao, before worked in a shoe market in Fengtai district of the capital city. At the beginning of 2009, he bought thousands of fake UGG boots and wholesaled them at prices between 80 and 100 yuan. When Yao was arrested he still had some 1,200 pairs in stock, according to Beijing police.

The other three arrested said they bought boots from Yao and sold them on Taobao.com at prices ranging from 230 to 500 yuan. A pair of genuine UGG boots sells for about 2,000 yuan.
