Police in Lanzhou raided a storehouse of pirated books in early June and found the largest cache discovered in the provincial capital this year.
After a five-hour search, police seized 4,460 books with a total potential retail value of 183,000 yuan ($28,200).
Zou Yanjun, leader of the enforcement team, said the books were brought to Lanzhou from other places across the nation and sold in remote rural areas in the province.
He said local authorities "noticed this piracy organization for a long time". Investigations revealed the gang had not only wholesale shops, but also a secret storehouse.
The case is under further investigation.
