Tibet: Region Making Headway in Patents and Trademarks

Though later than some other regions, Tibet is making headway in intellectual property protection, according to a local government report.

By the end of last year, 1,247 patents were filed from the autonomous region, 835 of which were granted. Its registered trademarks totaled 2,458 by March.

Two projects in the region are now listed as UNESCO "representative works of human oral and intangible cultural heritage" and 60 others are listed as tangible cultural heritage with national protection.

Since 2005, more than 40 million yuan ($6.2 million), from both the central and local governments has been spent to protect the region's intangible cultural heritage.
