Three-dimensional (3D) television developed with proprietary technologies will be commercialized in the second half of this year, according to Tsinghua University.

University researchers invented a new video chip that enables display of 3D images for viewers wearing special glasses. It can also be used in mobile phones.

Experts at the university are now researching an improved version of the chip that will eliminate the need for glasses to view 3D shows.
